In India, we live by the saying “Atithi Devo bhava” or “The visitor is equal to God”. We grow up watching parents and elders treat guests with kindness. Therefore, when it comes to our hospitality, it seems natural to treat them as we would like to be treated. Here are five simple tips to make their stay memorable:
Table of Contents
Comfortable bed
Getting proper sleep is part of staying fit. If you are working in a ‘comfortable’ living room, you need to make sure that the quality of the mattress you use is high. So choose a mattress carefully, even if you feel that it will not be used regularly; your guests will thank you for it. Just make sure you change the sheets before your guests arrive to be greeted with new, clean bed linen with a comfortable fabric, such as cotton. Throw in pillows and cushions, and you’ll be the most cautious host ever.
Beautiful windows
When it comes to guest rooms, dark and circular areas do not fit into a quiet area, while well-ventilated rooms full of natural light are desirable. The windows on the right can make a difference. For convenience, add a pair of both heavy and lightweight curtains, so guests can adjust for light penetration. Such considerations will never go unnoticed by a reasonable visitor.
Night light
Waking up in the dark can lead to many frightening situations when you are in an unfamiliar area. The same is true for your guests. The night light is a clever addition to the guest room as it will prevent unfortunate attacks at night. If your guest is a student, the night light will be greatly appreciated. Today, you have a wide variety of designs to choose from when it comes to night lights. So, make your choice according to the decorating theme of the guest room. A light bulb in the night light illuminates the path to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You do not want your guests to clap or rest their toes while you are in an unfamiliar area.
Bathroom accessories
Visitors to the house do not usually expect many bathrooms without soap. So a thoughtful choice of essential bathroom and bathroom accessories comes as a pleasant surprise. Buy new toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and conditioner, as well as necessities such as clean towels, toilet paper, hand wash, etc. in the guest bathroom. If you want to get things done, add a scented candle and fresh flowers to the program. Paying attention to such details will surely win the hearts of any visitors.
Flexible console table
More often than not, it is difficult to provide a separate dressing room in the living room due to space constraints. However, using a console table with drawers will allow your visitor to use it as a hat and writing desk. Keep it simple to open your guest space, except for a few extra considerations such as a notebook, book, and pen. Do not forget to write the wi-fi password on the notepad and place a small mirror on the table.
Towels and basic toiletries
A lot of people bring their stuff, but everyone forgets from time to time. Having extra soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, hairdryer, and the like will help minimize that last-minute trip to your nearest drug store. Towels may already be in the bathroom, but if it is a shared toilet, it is a good idea to set the towels separately in the room, to avoid confusion later.
Water bottles or drinking glasses
Give guests a way to have a midnight drink. Bottled water in a bed is nice, but if your tap water tastes good, a clean drinking glass works just as well.
TV channel guide and remote commands
If your guest room has a TV, spend a few minutes creating a channel guide. Include networks, news and sports channels, special interest channels (History, Smithsonian, Nature, Travel, DIY, Bravo), and movie channels. If your TV has Netflix access, list that too. Be sure to include directions to turn on the TV, as each remote control is different. Check your remote control to make sure it is working and does not require batteries.
Hot Tip: After creating your channel guide, consider adjusting it to stay longer and not be ruined by spilled drink or crying.
Full-length mirror
You probably have guests for a reason, and that reason is probably an event where appearance is important. The full-length mirror is an obvious help for anyone who needs to wear a special event. This is especially helpful if there is no bathroom connected to the living room where they can dress.
A bedside table and a reading lamp
Everyone likes to have some things next to them when they are asleep: a glass of water, a book, or their glasses, to name a few. Guests will not want to leave them on the floor, so a bedside table is an inexpensive way to ensure easy access.
The lamp is another beautiful, inexpensive item on a bedside table. A three-dimensional lantern accomplishes everything a visitor might need: a cool bedside light that we can read at night and a bright light to wear in the morning.
Garbage basket
There are a lot of small things you need to get rid of and having a clear place to go helps just to smooth things out. Yes, they may just throw garbage in the bathroom or kitchen, but saving your guests the hassle of leaving the room to take care of something basic will cost a lot.
Simple power stores for phones and tablets
Almost everyone has a cell phone and other devices that they need to charge at night. Give them an easy way to do so, without moving the furniture or crawling on their hands or knees. Extension cords on both sides of the bed will be well received. If possible, find out what kind of equipment they have in advance, and have the right chargers plugged in early.
These tips will not only enhance the decoration of your guest room but also ensure that your guests get a pleasant stay.
